Senior Software Engineer (Java)
Senior Java role with an AI-native consulting partner building a team in Prishtina. Java, Kafka, AWS, and agentic AI in daily practice.
38Shift is hiring on behalf of a client we cannot name yet. They are an AI-native consulting partner building digital products for organisations you already know, household names in payments, retail, banking and media. Over 600 people, certified Great Place to Work, and now building a team in Prishtina.

You will join a cross-functional agile team of 3 to 5 engineers, working alongside QA, Product and Design to ship for clients across several industries. Senior means you own technical decisions, not just tickets.

What you will do
- Build RESTful Java APIs and the database layer behind them, with readable, maintainable, well-tested code.
- Integrate third-party APIs, including payment gateways.
- Work directly with the full project team, business analysts, QA, and the client's own engineers.
- Find the bottlenecks in delivery and clear them.
- Handle difficult client conversations well, including the ones nobody wants.
- Spot knowledge gaps on the team and mentor into them.
- Define and oversee the technical implementation of a client project.

- You know Java API development properly, including ORM and storage.
- You share knowledge by default, across your team and beyond it.
- You argue for code reviews, pairing and automated tests, and practise them.
- You already build and deploy with agentic AI, and use AI-enabled workflows to move faster.
- Cloud services and CI/CD experience is a bonus, not a gate.
